Prof. Fang is a pioneer of marine biology and ecology researcher in Taiwan. He was a drafter of Taiwan’s marine policy white paper, a member of the committee of sustainability and marine affairs of Executive Yuan, the initiator and first chairman of Taiwan coral reef society, and the chairman of wetland protection association, Taiwan. He was awarded as outstanding research professor by the National Science Council, the culture metal by the Ministry of Education, and the merit metal by the Executive Yuan for his contribution in marine science, education and conservation.
